Xcel Energy’s Larson to Head Energy Supply Group
Mogensen named to head Transmission
Minneapolis, March 9, 2010 - Xcel Energy has named Kent T. Larson vice president and chief energy supply officer, effective March 31.
Larson, currently vice president, Transmission and Operating Services, will take over the utility’s Energy Supply business group, which comprises renewable energy facilities and a fleet of coal and natural gas power plants throughout its operating regions, as well as fuels, environmental services, engineering and construction, commercial operations and technical services.
“Kent’s extensive background and variety of management experiences in the company uniquely qualify him for this position,” said Dick Kelly, chairman and CEO. “Larson replaces David Wilks, who is retiring after a long and distinguished career with the company, including the last 10 years as head of Energy Supply.
“Energy Supply, under David’s leadership, has developed a reputation for excellent operations, environmental and technological leadership, and safety,” Kelly said, “and I am confident that Kent will expand on that excellent record.”
Larson joined Northern States Power Co.-Minnesota, now an Xcel Energy operating company, in 1982 and has held various positions in engineering, operations, sales and regional management. Active in the community, he currently serves as a trustee of Hamline University, and he is a past chair of the Minneapolis Regional Chamber of Commerce. Larson earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Iowa State University and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of St. Thomas.
Teresa M. Mogensen, director, Transmission Asset Management and Business Relations, has been named to succeed Larson as vice president, Transmission, also effective March 31.
Prior to joining Xcel Energy in 2007, Mogensen spent seven years at the American Transmission Co. in Waukesha, Wis., where she held director positions in System Operations, Engineering and Construction, and Transmission Planning and Service. She holds a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and a master’s degree in business administration, both from Marquette University.
